Guitars and Gear
Let’s be honest: nobody really cares what guitars I own.
Every piece of gear tells a story: the one that survived a terrible gig, the one that made me fall back in love with playing, the one I thought would change everything (and didn’t). This page is where I talk about those stories, about chasing tone, fighting with pedals, rediscovering old favorites, and figuring out what really inspires me to pick up a guitar.
If you’ve ever spent too much time tweaking a sound, regretted selling a guitar, or realized that your old amp feels right in a way no plugin ever will — you’ll get it.
This isn’t about gear as status. It’s about how it shapes creativity, emotion, and memory. It’s about the relationship between a musician and the tools they use to say something that words can’t.

Because gear is never just gear.
It’s memory, frustration, joy, and obsession all rolled into wood, metal, and electricity.
Why
I’ve spent years chasing tones I heard in my head, trying to make cheap guitars sound expensive and expensive ones sound alive. I’ve loved instruments that other people hated, and sold ones I wish I hadn’t. Every amp, pedal, and guitar tells part of the story of where I’ve been as a musician and as a person.
This page exists because I’ve realized that the story behind the sound is as interesting as the sound itself. It’s about how the tools we use shape the music we make — and what they reveal about who we are when we’re making it.
The Journey
Down on Jane started in basements, powered by gear held together with tape and zip ties, bad wiring, and passion. Over the years, the gear got better, but the questions stayed the same:
- What makes a tone feel real?
- Does inspiration come from the instrument, or from the player?
- Why do some guitars feel like home, while others never quite click?
I’ve gone through phases of chasing vintage magic, getting lost in digital rabbit holes, and then stripping it all back again. What I’ve learned is that tone isn’t a finish line it’s a reflection of where you are in that musical moment.
This page is where I share that ongoing journey not as a gear collector or expert, but as a lifelong player still figuring it out.
What You’ll Find Here
Honest Reviews & Reflections
Not spec sheets but stories. Why a guitar stuck around, why an amp didn’t, what surprised me, and what I wish I’d known sooner.
Gear That Inspires (and Disappoints)
Candid takes on the tools I use — from the gear that shaped our early recordings to the pedals I can’t live without (and the ones I probably could).
Studio Notes & Tone Experiments
Behind-the-scenes looks at how I record, write, and chase sounds. Expect experiments, mistakes, and small victories along the way.
The Bigger Picture
Thoughts on creativity, nostalgia, and the strange relationship between musicians and their gear. Because sometimes, it’s not about tone — it’s about what chasing tone teaches you.
The Bottom Line
You don’t have to care about the gear I own.
But if you’ve ever picked up an instrument and felt something you couldn’t explain, that moment when sound becomes emotion, then you’ll get what this page is about.
This is a love letter to guitars and gear and sounds that stay with us.
