Down on Jane Privacy Policy

Down on Jane (downonjane.com) is a music blog and band website about staying creative after 40. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit the site or join the email list, how we use it, and the choices you have. In this policy, “we,” “us,” and “our” mean Down on Jane.
The short version: we collect your email address only if you give it to us, we use it to send you what you asked for and new blog posts, and we never sell it. Questions? Email info@downonjane.com.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Email signups. When you sign up for the email list or request a free download, such as the Home Studio Checklist, we collect your email address.
- Comments. If you leave a comment on a blog post, WordPress collects the name, email address, and website you enter, along with your IP address and browser details to help detect spam.
- Emails you send us. If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message.
Information collected automatically
When you visit the site, some information is collected automatically by our hosting provider and the tools described below. This can include your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you visit, how you arrived at the site, and the approximate location suggested by your IP address. We use this information in aggregate to understand how the site is used. It is not used to identify you personally.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Send you the download or resource you requested
- Send you new blog posts and occasional updates about Down on Jane, including new music
- Reply to your comments and emails
- Understand which posts and pages people find useful, so we can make the site better
- Keep the site secure and block spam
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We only share it with the service providers listed below, who help us run the site and the email list.
Cookies, analytics, and advertising
Cookies are small files stored in your browser. We and the services we use rely on them for the following:
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics to see how many people visit, which pages they read, and how they found the site. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects data such as pages viewed and approximate location. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Advertising. The site may show ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can turn off personalized ads in your Google Ad Settings, and learn more on Google’s page about how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- Site function. WordPress may set cookies when you leave a comment, so you don’t have to retype your name and email next time.
Embedded content. Some pages include content from other sites, such as a Spotify music player. Embedded content behaves as if you visited that site directly, and that site may collect data about you, use cookies, and track your interaction with it.
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. The site will still work, though some features, like remembered comment details, may not.

We may also share information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of the site and its visitors.
Our email list
When you sign up, you’ll receive the download you asked for, followed by new blog posts and occasional updates from Down on Jane. We don’t send ads for other companies.
Every email includes an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Click it and you’ll be removed right away. You can also email info@downonjane.com and we’ll take you off the list by hand.
Our emails are sent through Mailchimp, which records whether an email was opened and which links were clicked. We use this only to see what readers find useful.
How long we keep it
We keep your email address for as long as you’re subscribed. If you unsubscribe, Mailchimp keeps a record of that so you aren’t added again by mistake. Comments stay on the site until they’re deleted. Analytics data is kept according to Google Analytics’ retention settings.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us at any time to show you, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you. Email info@downonjane.comand we’ll respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live, including California and the European Union, you may have additional rights under local law, and we will honor them.
If you’re in the European Union or the United Kingdom, we rely on your consent when you join the email list, and you can withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing.
Do Not Track
Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no common standard for responding to it, so the site does not currently change its behavior when it receives one. You can still use the opt-outs and browser settings described above.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect your information, including a secure connection (HTTPS) and security tools on the site. No method of sending or storing data online is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we’ll post the new version on this page and change the effective date at the top. If the changes are significant, we’ll let subscribers know by email.
